REDISTRIBUTION OF STATICALLY INDETERMINATE EFFECTS IN PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BRIDGES THROUGH LINEAR CREEP

REDISTRIBUTION DES EFFETS HYPERSTATIQUES DES PONTS EN BETON PRECONTRAINT PAR FLUAGE LINEAIRE

The calculation of variations in statically indeterminate reactions, based on the separate study of creep and shrinkage of concrete, and of the relaxation of prestressing steel, proved insufficient to explain the phenomena observed in the structure monitored. A theory is put forward, which takes into account the inter relation of the rheological behaviour of the two materials (concrete and steel) in prestressed concrete; this theory appears to explain the phenomena observed satisfactorily. Thermal phenomena have A marked influence on the overall behaviour of the structures studied, and it is possible to take them into consideration by including the external effects on a structure of A difference of temperature of at least 5 degrees C between the upper and lower parts of the bridge deck. Based on temperature measurements, an accurate calculation method is presented. /TRRL/
