NAVIGATIONAL AIDS - RELIABILITY, REPAIR AND SERVICING: ARE THEY SUFFICIENT?
The installation, reliability and servicing of electronic navigational equipment are critically evaluated. Examples of inefficiency in installation of such equipment are provided. The reliability of this equipment is questioned. Recommendations for improvements are given. The inability to service British equipment outside of Great Britian is discussed. It is recommended that electronic equipment be simple, easy to operate, designed and located to stand up to shipboard conditions and above all completely reliable. The equipment should be regularly serviced by competent engineers with some form of maintenance agreement.
