AN ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF FACTORS INFLUENCING ROAD MAINTENANCE COSTS
This paper is chiefly concerned with identifying relationships between road maintenance costs and road inventory characteristics on individual sections of road. The aim of the analysis is to provide information in a suitable form for inclusion in the cost-benefit style project evaluations. The data are analysed in two ways. First by way of direct analysis relationships between costs and inventory characteristics such as traffic volumes, age of pavement etc., and second, by cross classifications of roads into apparently suitable descriptive categories and then analysing differences in maintenance costs between these categories.
