SWEDISH AND NORWEGIAN GOVERNMENTS EQUIP SEAMEN'S SCHOOLS WITH NAVIGATIONAL SIMULATORS
With navigational simulators for ships, pupils can be "dry trained" in tackling critical maneouvering situations. They are trained in radar plotting, radar navigation and in the use of advanced anticollision techniques. Loading and discharging operations can also be simulated. The instructor continuously feeds in new traffic situations, while at the time varying current and wind conditions are simulated. This article provides a description of the simulators and their uses.
