FLOATING CRANES - PAYING THEIR WAY?

The number of floating cranes in worldwide ports is decreasing. Their utilization is indicated in a table provided and cost considerations are evaluated. There are two basic components to a floating crane: the crane structure and the pontoon on which it stands. Design considerations of these components are provided. The major use of floating cranes is straight-forward cargo-lifting duties involving general cargo work, container lifts, and heavy lifts. A description of these and other duties is provided. The article also includes a list of manufacturers involved in floating cranes.
