JACKUP DESIGN IS VERSATILE AND HAS MANY USES IN THE OFFSHORE, SAYS RIG BUILDER
A four-legged, self-elevating base has been designed which is considered applicable to virtually any off-shore operation where varying water depth, wave action, and mobility are difficulties. A number of innovative proposals for the use of self-elevating offshore drilling platforms has been put forth. Among them is a pier island for shallow water and unloading of ships. The portable pier idea is detailed here. Other applications of the jackup base are a pier causeway, a construction barge, a bridge causeway, mobile crew and quarters, a navigation tracking station, and missile lauching platforms.
