STATISTICS OF LIQUEFACTION AND SPT RESULTS-CLOSURE

Comments are made regarding points raised by discussers and relating to: the structure of the data; the validity of the calculations; and the interpretation of the results. The authors express their reservation about the data. They also point out that the sample is not biased toward one particular earthquake or one particular site. The computation of S is discussed as well as the meaning of the probabilities in certain figures. It is observed that SPT, as well as other penetration tests, is affected by many factors such as mineral type and in-situ stresses. For this reason the term "apparent relative density" is used to describe one way of normalizaing SPT results.
