NATIONAL COOPERATIVE HIGHWAY RESEARCH PROGRAM. SUMMARY OF PROGRESS THROUGH 1976

The National Cooperative Highway Research Program's (NCHRP) activities through 1976 are summarized, and the status of research efforts administered by the NCHRP is reported in this publication which also includes summaries of unpublished reports of some projects. The formulation of NCHRP programs is outlined and the financing, administration, and contracting of the projects are briefly described. The Program policy for applied research which is designed to respond quickly and efficiently to the needs of state highway and transportation departments, ensures maximum exposure of the research while in progress. The projects listed here are grouped in 22 areas covering pavements, economics, traffic, general materials, laws, bridges, roadside development, safety etc. Summaries are included of reports on criteria for need of seal coats for bituminous pavements (describes a Surface Condition Rating System); models for predicting weekend recreational traffic; specifications for glass beads in pavement marking; and standards for highway noise levels.
