NONLINEAR ANALYSIS OF CONCRETE SPLITTING TESTS
Solutions are presented for the plane stress, plane strain, and axisymmetric elastic-plastic fracture behavior of concrete cylinders under two symmetric punch for two cases. In the first problem the splitting cylinder test under plane stress and plane strain conditions is considered, and in the second the axisymmetric double punch splitting test is investigated. The plasticity theory used in this analysis was developed by the authors earlier for concrete-like material applications. This theory incorporates a loading surface which is dependent on the mean normal stress and normality of the deformation rate vector to the loading surface. Work hardening and fracture are considered in the theory. The numerical analysis is obtained within the framework of the finite-element method and a step-by-step integration procedure. These solutions furnish the analytical basis for some of these indirect tensile tests of concrete-like material which also help to evaluate the theory. Comparison between present analysis, elastic solutions, limit analysis, and experiment are also given.(a) /TRRL/
