DEVELOPMENT OF MEDIUM TERM PAVEMENT PERFORMANCE MODELS FOR A COST-EFFECTIVE APPROACH OF MAINTENANCE
The French Administration has developed a modern Pavement Management System, GIRR, mainly involving two modules: the evaluation module and the programming module. The research is now focusing on the development of a third module, devoted to the "medium term" analysis of the maintenance strategies. It should combine the two former modules and medium term pavement performance models (MTPP) to simulate the application of a maintenance policy for several years and estimate its effects. A Ph.D. thesis has been devoted to study of these MTPP models in the context of European roads. More than two hundred test sections of modern pavements have been followed up over periods ranging from five to thirteen years. Different statistical approaches were used to derive MTPP models from these data. They were compared and the most satisfying was applied to determine MTPP models and confidence intervals for their parameters.
