MACHINERY FOR A MINIMUM SIZED ROCK TUNNEL
The experience gained on the effluent drain tunnel forming part of the $2.3 million contract for Phase 2 of the development of Roundhill Sewage Treatment Works near Stourbridge, West Midlands, is summarised. The tunnel, in weak sandstone, was driven with a Atlas Copco mini fullfacer tunnelling machine, which had not previously been used in the UK, and was lined with high strength mass concrete to a truly elliptical profile. /TRRL/
