SEMI-DEMAND OPERATION OF INTERCITY RAILWAY TRANSPORTATION
This paper proposes the semi-demand operation of the intercity railway transportation in order to improve the service level and reduce the operational costs. The semi-demand operation is a flexible operation method based on the passengers' demands. Assuming that the intelligent passengers assistance system and a new seat reservation method are introduced to a railway transportation system, the possibility for realizing the new operation method is shown. In order to investigate the effects of the semi-demand operation, several operations cases such as a temporary train stopping and allocating the reserved seats in one lump sum are summarized. Finally, the effect of the semi-demand operation is verified thorough the simulations.
