THE DESIGN OF A JIT SUPPLY CHAIN: THE EFFECT OF LEADTIME UNCERTAINTY ON SAFETY STOCK
In this paper, a model is described for examining, from the manufacturer/distributor perspective, the joint effect of leadtime and demand uncertainties, as well as the effect of "fair shares" allocation, on safety stocks in a 4-link just-in-time (JIT) supply chain. A case study is provided. The model can be easily incorporated into an optimization model for selecting carriers, outside suppliers, and similar entities.
