PRODUCTION PLANNING AND SCHEDULING FOR LONG LINE PRESTRESS PRODUCTS
The precast concrete industry's problems in relation to production planning are discussed, and the state-of-the-art of the scheduling and estimating techniques are presented. The reasons for high strand losses and low labor productivity are analyzed and summarized. A need for production sequence anaylsis is discussed and its use is illustrated. New theory and criteria for scheduling is established and its application in a step-by-step procedure demonstrated. Computerized techniques are introduced as a scientific approach to decisions-making in the process of long line prestress production planning and scheduling. Seventeen case studies describe every important problem area in long line prestress scheduling. Conclusions and recommendations are presented after each case. The method presented approaches full optimization in estimating labor, scheduling orders and controlling flow of raw materials. The application of the criteria recommended and the use of the new planning and scheduling method lead to substantial cumulative savings in production time, strand, labor and overhead.
