COVINGTON COUNTY CONTROLS EROSION ON DIRT ROADS
This article describes efforts to combat erosion in a watershed area of Covington County, Alabama. The Northeast Yellow River Watershed was authorized for planning under the Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Act. The greater watershed project aimed to reduce flooding; provide for municipal, agricultural, and recreational use; reduce erosion and sedimentation; sustain productivity of the resource base; improve water quality; and enhance fish and wildlife habitat. Using this watershed project as a means to address severe erosion problems on dirt roads in the County, federal and county officials studied the problem, developed possible solutions, and determined what assistance was available to implement solutions.
