CHEMICAL FIRE TENDER TACHIBANA
This vessel was build for Kobe City Waterborne Fire-Fighting Service by Ishihara Dockyard. Principal particulars are as follows: Length - 19 m; Breadth - 4.6 m; Depth - 2.2 m; Draught - 0.95 m; Displacement - 34.29 tonnes; Speed, max. - 18 knots; Speed, cruising - 15 knots; Complement - 5. The tender features an all-welded high-tensile steel hull with aluminum deck and superstructure. The vessel's fire-fighting equipment is specially designed for handling tanker accidents and oil spills. Rescue functions are also performed. Equipment includes 3 water cannon, 2 water monitors, and 2 suction nozzles. To deal effectively with oil fires, the tender is provided with a 2,000-1 liquid chemical tank, the chemical being supplied in 3-6% solution to the cannon by a proportioner unit. Propulsion is by two type GM12V-71N high-speed Diesel engines each developing 395 hp at 2,170 rpm. This installation and the electric power plant are described in detail.
