CORRELATION STUDY OF RIDE QUALITY ASSESSMENT USING PAVEMENT PROFILING DEVICES
The Massachusetts Highway Department (MHD) is developing and implementing ride quality specifications as part of a Quality Assurance program for new and rehabilitated pavements. The MHD, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration has sponsored this research project. The goal is to identify and evaluate suitable profiling devices with adequate precision and bias. The testing is based on the ASTM E950 specification. A correlation between the Walking Profiler and profiling devices will be established. Utilizing statistical analysis models the limits of confidence of the devices will be determined. The use of filters and lead-ins will be analyzed. A study on the interpolation effect of the profiles will be performed. The International Roughness Index and the Ride Number are profiling indices to be studied.
