GETTING REVENUE CONTROL EQUIPMENT CERTIFIED IN SAN FRANCISCO : A MANUFACTURER'S VIEWPOINT
The City of San Francisco's Department of Consumer Assurance (DCA), recently announced its new ordinance for Revenue Control Equipment (RCE). Because the City collects a 25% tax on parking revenue, they want to be guaranteed that they are collecting all that is due, hence the parking operators must use DCA certified equipment or face charges. In regards to the certified equipment, system security was one of the chief concerns; companies looking to get certified had to safeguard from hackers, and manipulation by customers as well as parking employees. It took Ticketech, revenue controls systems manufacturer 6 attempts, several submissions and demonstrations over the period of a year until their equipment was certified.
