NOTES ON SCHEMATISATION OF TANKERS BY MEANS OF PLANE GRILLAGE
ALCUNE CONSIDERAZIONI SULLA SCHEMATIZZAZIONE DELLE NAVI CISTERNE PER MEZZO DI GRIGLIATI PIANE
The ship chosen as a model for the carrying out of the various calculations is a tanker about 200,000 TDW having two longitudinal bulkheads and one longitudinal centre line girder. The cargo-tank zone is constituted by five central tanks and ten wing tanks, all of the same length. At the center of each tank a wash bulkhead is fitted. Since this study examines questions relating both to longitudinal and to transverse strength, two grillages have been considered: one extended to the whole cargo-tank zone, the other to three tanks. Tables are provided summarizing the calculations carried out with the purposes of analysing: a) the influence of the distribution of the ships inertia between side-shell and longitudinal-bulkhead members; b) the influence of the geometric properties of the beam equivalent to the transverse frame inside the wing tanks; c) the influence of the geometrical properties of bottom centre-line girder sections adjacent to the transverse bulkheads; d) the difference between a completed grillage and one formed by the bulkheads only; e) the effect of boundary conditions; f) the influence of the way in which the grillage is being loaded.
