INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT SYSTEMS RESEARCH FACILITY

A consortium of Australian universities, road and transport authorities and the Private Sector have been awarded an Australian Research Council grant to establish an Intelligent Transport Systems Research Facility. The Facility will comprise high-end computing equipment with live communications links to a real-world test-bed. The Facility is intended to enable researchers to demonstrate the readiness of advanced systems and accelerate deployment of ITS technologies through prototype development. The provision of live, real-time communications between the Laboratory and test-bed is a unique feature of the proposed facility. It will provide researchers with direct access to data from field sensors to test prototype applications and evaluate their performance under live traffic conditions. The Laboratory will also enhance Australia's international standing and enable Australian researchers to collaborate and link with top international researchers in this field.
