PREDICTION OF CONGESTION DUE TO ROAD WORKS ON FREEWAYS

This paper describes a new procedure for predicting congestion resulting from road construction on freeways. A macroscopic model is used to calculate the congestion process, based on estimating the traffic demand and the capacity of long term construction sites and short term maintenance sites. Focus is on examining the various factors that influence the capacity of congestion of maintenance sites. The procedure makes it possible to estimate queue length and duration as well as resulting time delays.
