FIRST- AND SECOND-ORDER PHASE TRANSITIONS FROM FREE FLOW TO SYNCHRONIZED FLOW
In this research, phase transition from free flow to synchronized flow is studied. Simulations are carried out under the speed limit condition with a car-following full velocity difference model. It was determined that the transition is 2nd-order if the speed limit region is long and 1st-order if the speed limit region is short. This implies that the type of transition depends on the type of inhomogeneity.
