DELUGRIP SYMPOSIUM PRESENTS THE FACTS
Evidence was given that delugrip road surfacing material can economically offer improved safety for traffic with a reduction of tyre noise. An overall reduction of 3 db(a) had been obtained on the resurfaced hammersmith flyover, with as much as 4db(a) less noise in the 1 khz frequency region. Delugrip was a bituminous composition based on a rational method of mix design dependent on the speed, gradient and traffic intensity at a given site. Natural rock or artificial aggregates could be used. The aggregate grading is based upon the packing properties of the aggregate components to achieve a desired void content. This mixes can be designed for flaky, elongate, cubical, rounded or angular aggregates. Selected blending of aggregates with different rates of wear is designed to maintain the system of continuously connected surface water drainage channels throughout the life of the surface. Measurements of skid resistance on a six year old delugrip surface are shown to be superior to those from B.S. 594 rolled asphalt with precoated chippings. /TRRL/
