RESULTS OF LOADING TESTS WITH BORED PILES IN SILTY SOIL

The loading tests described were conducted by the geotechnical laboratory of the Finnish Technical Research Centre. The purpose of the investigation was to experiment with equipment and methods used in loading tests and to study certain factors affecting the bearing capacity of vertical, bored piles. Among the factors investigated were: skin friction distribution along the piles, conditions similar to those occurring when water enters the casting tube, and the effect of a thin layer of disturbed or undisturbed stoneless soil between the bedrock and the point of the pile. This article presents a detailed account of soil conditions at the test site, loading test arrangements and how the testing was performed as well as an analysis of the results. /TRRL/
