REDUCING POLLUTION FROM SELECTED ENERGY TRANSFORMATION SOURCES. A STUDY ACCOMPLISHED FOR THE COMMISSION OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES, ENVIRONMENT AND CONSUMER PROTECTION SERVICE
This study presents economic and technical comparisons and evaluation of pollution abatement means applicable to energy transformation sources. Presently available technology and processes under development are considered. Stationary sources considered include power stations, large industrial boilers, district heating, municipal incineration and oil refineries. The major pollutants considered are sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and particulates. One chapter deals with pollutant emission from mobile sources. Statistical data are presented on fuel consumption in transport sectors (road, rail, air) based on information taken from the 1973 Energy Statistics Yearbook. Estimates are given of nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbon, lead, smoke, particulate matter, sulphur dioxide and odour emissions. Costs of reducing pollution are quoted. /TRRL/
