BRITISH STANDARD SPECIFICATION: AUTOMOBILE SERIES. TYRES AND WHEELS. PART 2. WHEELS AND RIMS. SECTION 5. ROAD WHEELS MANUFACTURED WHOLLY OR PARTLY OF CAST LIGHT ALLOY FOR PASSENGER CARS

The increased performance of passenger cars has led to the use for the road wheels of light alloys, generally of aluminium or magnesium, which offer a favourable strength to weight ratio. This section of the standard has been introduced to ensure that the quality of design and production is adequately controlled. The section applies to wheels made wholly of metal with structural elements in cast light alloy. Most designs of wheel are "one piece" but composite wheels also exist; the test procedures are applicable to both cases. /Author/TRRL/
