TURNING GRANTS INTO PAX
Under the Small Community Air Service Development Pilot Program, Congress has authorized grants intended to help smaller communities enhance their air service. This article describes how nine airports in Louisiana, Idaho, West Virginia, Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Arizona, Florida and Ohio are using their grants. Grants are being used primarily for marketing and advertising programs, or towards revenue guarantee agreements to encourage new service or reestablish service to areas that have been cut. One airport is using its grant to encourage market development by providing station equipment, staff and services to a participating airline at a set fee.
