RESEARCH ON THE VEHICLE-PEDESTRIAN COLLISION PROCESS
Four phases of the collision process are identified. 1, the moment of contact with the vehicle up to the moment of falling on to the bonnet; 2, the movement of pedestrian and vehicle, where the pedestrian is moved over the bonnet, due to the greater speed of the vehicle in comparison to that of the impacted person; 3, the moment when the speed of vehicle and pedestrian are equalised and the vehicle speed becomes slower due to intensive braking, causing further movement of the pedestrian in the free fall which terminates in contact with the ground; and 4, the moment of contact with the ground to the moment when the pedestrian is completely motionless.
