TOLLING TECHNOLOGY AND ADVANCED TRAVELER'S INFORMATION
To assist in the allocation of national funds for roading, Transfund initiated a feasibility study on the development of a Transport Information System (TIS) to take advantage of emerging intelligent transport technologies, provide dynamic updating and wider scope and functionality for users of transport data. The purpose of this feasibility study was three-fold: to determine the adequacy of the existing National Transport Data Base (NTDB), to establish whether there is a need for an improved transport data system, and if so, what general form it could take, and could it be justified on a benefit/cost basis, and to explore the concept of an electronic Road User Charges (e-RUC) system, and its economic and technical feasibility. The study concluded that the present system based on the NTDB was inadequate.
