BRIDGE DECK BEHAVIOUR

This book describes in physical terms the behaviour of the principal types of bridge deck being built today. It demonstrates graphically how forces and deflections are distributed, how the various structures are simulated and analysed by modern computer programs, and how computer output is related back to the forces in the structure. It is presented under the following chapter headings:- 1. Structural forms of bridge decks. 2. Beam decks: continuous beam analysis. 3. Slab decks: grillage analysis. 4. Beam-and-slab decks: grillage analysis. 5. Cellurlar decks: shear-flexible grillage analysis. 6. Shear key decks. 7. Three-dimensional space frame analyses and slab membrane action. 8. Shear lag and edge stiffening. 9. Skew tapered and curved decks. 10. Charts for preliminary design. 11. Temperature and prestress loading. 12. Harmonic analysis and folded plate theory. 13. Finite element method. Author and subject indexes are included. /TRRL/
