EFFECT OF ATMOSPHERIC ATTENUATION ON EXTERIOR LIGHTING DESIGN
There are at present no recommendations for allowing for the effect of atmospheric attenuation in the design of area floodlighting and road lighting schemes. The paper describes measurements of the atmospheric attenuation and uses the data obtained in design calculations. An instrument has been constructed for measuring the changes in atmospheric attenuation. A beam of light is passed over a folded path 144 M long and readings from which the attenuation can be calculated are taken automatically every 30 min by a data logger. A luminance meter was used to calibrate the automatic instrument. Some calculations on the effect of atmospheric attenuation of the performance of floodlighting and road lighting installations have been carried out. /Author/
