INTELLIGENT TRAFFIC SERVICES AS A RESULT OF USING THE SMART TRAFFIC SO SOLUTION PORTAL

CMG Mobility Solutions International acknowledges the need to drive intelligent solutions on traffic services by innovative public private partnerships. This ITS market spectrum brings infra providers, Ministries of Transport and the industry together. In addition the ongoing merge of formerly isolated technologies already leads to a significant lift up of ITS services. The ITS community should secure that present pilots cover integral economical, behavioral and technical feasibility assessments. A common goal of public and private partners is to ensure the acceleration of the development of commercial feasible services. Parallel this need for services there is a trend of increasing technological possibilities and social acceptance of mobile communications, positioning systems, the Internet, and in-vehicle telematics. This offers new opportunities for multi- and inter-modal traffic management, based on a Smart Traffic Solution Portal (STSP) and a set of generic Smart Traffic Applications (STA). Cooperating STA's are a first step towards Smart Traffic Solutions (STS) for advanced traffic management. There are STS's to provide for example personalized and specific travel and traffic information to (individual) drivers and infrastructure providers. This information is provided in accordance to the users current needs, at the right time and place and with the right content. This enhances the quality of service offered to the infrastructure user. The Smart Traffic Solution Portal includes a billing component that allows the traffic manager to charge the end-user for the service level provided. Distance related charging is a special kind of an infrastructure pricing solution and is one of the possible STS's using this portal. Operating this kind of portal requires reconsidering roles and tasks within the field of public and private organizations active in multi-modal traffic.
