EVALUATION OF THE GRADED MOTORCYCLE LICENCE SCHEME IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA

The paper describes an evaluative study made of the motorcycle graded licence scheme introduced in Western Australia in March 1973. Both the before and after groups had in excess of 2500 subjects each. The experimental design also incorporated a number of comparisons to enable any differences between the before and after periods, or the groups of subjects being compared, to be detected. The before and after groups did not differ significantly with respect to any motorcycle accident variable included in the results analysis. A number of differences were found to exist between the two periods. However, these were of a minor nature and did not affect the conclusion of the study. It was concluded that the introduction of the graded licence scheme did not effect a reduction in the incidence of motorcycle accidents in western australia. /Author/ /TRRL/
