FIELD STUDY ON THE IMPACT ENERGY OF LARGE TANKERS
This paper reports the measurements of impact energies on fenders at two oil terminals and the comparison of the results with the values calculated on the basis of the current design standard in Japan. Both impacts due to berthing and due to the motion of a moored tanker subjected to wave action were investigated. It was established that the measured impact energy is much larger than the calculated one on the basis of current design standard in Japan.
