THE USE OF INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY IN PAVEMENT MANAGEMENT
Pavement management systems are an important tool for managing a pavement network, whether the network is comprised of roads and streets or runways, taxiways, and aprons. New tools are being developed to convey pavement management information in ways that visually depict necessary information. These tools utilize the features of interactive, multimedia programs that incorporate the use of audio clips, video clips, photographs, and other graphics. By linking these multimedia programs to pavement management databases, agencies are exploring new ways to provide information to people both inside and outside their organizations. This paper summarizes the efforts of three different types of agencies and their use of multimedia tools in on-going pavement management efforts as training programs and reporting mechanisms.
