DEVELOPMENT OF AN INTEGRATED COMPUTERIZED PROCESS FOR THE CLASSIFICATION OF SHIPS
This paper explains how considerations of the principles of hull classification, associated with the philosophy of Bureau Veritas concerning the survey of new types of ships, have given birth to a highly integrated and automated system of structural analysis. The most significant features of this system are presented. These features allow it to be used for fast classical static calculations as well as for direct analysis of the primary structure of any sophisticated ship under dynamic loads induced by her motion and/or vibrations under the action of a sea represented by a spectrum. The information flow is managed by the use of a Data Base, which is intended to replace in the near future the written records elaborated all along the ship's project and life. This will also help obtaining and storing statistical data, which constitute, in a scientific way the experience of Bureau Veritas.
