INSTRUMENTATION SYSTEM CHECKS ENGINES FOR A CLEANER, QUIETER WORLD
A description is given of the engine test facilities built by Perkins Engines at their plant in Peterborought. The complex comprised 61 individual cells and a common test area, tests being controlled from consoles which enable engines to be operated by remote control. The consoles can stimulate varying operating conditions and have a digital read-out. A description is given of the equipment involved which measures carbon monoxide content of exhaust emission, hydrocarbons and nitric oxide. Two noise cells have been constructed which incorporate oscilloscope display for immediate evaluation and a data aquisition tape for analysis by computer. All the test equipment is aimed at meeting North American legislation and within these parameters standards for EEC countries can be met. /TRRL/
