PROPOSED USE OF A COMPUTER FILING SYSTEM FOR CONSTRUCTION AGGREGATES

The U.S. Geological Survey has in operation a computer filing system for mineral resources; the CRIB Mineral Resources Data Bank. Mineral resource information from throughout the U.S. and the world is available for retrieval from this system. Because of the economic value of sand and gravel as a construction material, a similar computer filing system for construction aggregates was established; the "CRIB Construction Materials Inventory File." The file consists of formated information items which adequately identify sand and gravel deposits, including engineering tests which determine their quality. The CRIB file is maintained and operated by the General Information Processing System, GIPSY, which allows for information to be selectively searched and retrieved. Construction aggregate data for Ada County, Idaho, have been collected. Presently (March 1976) no output data is available. The computer filing system provides a means of incorporating sand and gravel resources into land use planning and provides a complete inventory of construction aggregate sources.
