VITAL SOFTWARE TRAIN CONTROL CERTIFICATION
The new millennium portends significant technological change in the rail transit industry. The paper examines new technology signal systems, i.e., communications and software based systems that introduce a whole new set of requirements to the rail transportation operator in terms of the safety assurance of its passengers. System Safety, the accepted process for assuring that all organizational elements are performing according to a predetermined plan, must now be expanded to assure that these same elements understand the impact of the new technology on system operation and are prepared accordingly.
