THE DEBATE ABOUT ADVANCED DRIVING
Many of the so-called advanced driving skills that are taught in driver improvement courses are extremely fundamental skills: smoothness, seating position, hand position, vision usage, search, and eye movement techniques. What makes these skills advanced is that they exceed the perception and performance levels that so many drivers operate at. The perception for many drivers is that their skill level is far better than average to start with. As long as we are not at the point where every mistake results in a crash, there will be an uphill struggle to motivate driver improvement for its own sake.
