TEXTILE AND STEEL REINFORCEMENT AND ADHESIVE SYSTEMS FOR RUBBER
Reinforcement materials for rubber and the adhesion problems they involve continue to be subject to development changes. In their most important areas - tires, conveyor belting and hose - they include cotton, rayon, nylon, polyester, aramids, steel and glass, each of which has particular properties. Polyester appears to be gaining ground for economic and other reasons. Development of improved adhesion between rubber and brass-coated steel wire is being pursued, and a recent proprietary bonding additive has had some success in avoiding the major disadvantages of resorcinol in natural rubber, nitrile rubber, polychloroprene and epdm.(a) /TRRL/
