TRANSPORTATION-RELATED NOISE IN THE UNITED STATES
Transportation-related noise affects nearly every person in the United States to some degree by limiting the ability to carry on conversations, to concentrate at work and school, and to sleep. Noise is rapidly becoming a growing concern not only to urban, but also to suburban and rural communities. Much has been accomplished in the past three to four decades with regard to improving the noise climate in the United States, and many new technologies offer the potential for further improvements. This article presents an overview of past accomplishments, current research, and future expectations with regard to transportation-related noise reduction.
