FUTURE NEED FOR INTERNATIONAL TRANSPORT
DET FRAMTIDA BEHOVET AV INTERNATIONELLA TRANSPORTER: REDOVISNING AV REGERINGSUPPDRAG
Traditional Swedish export markets - Nordic countries, Germany, UK and other EU countries - will dominate up to 2010. Although markets in Poland and Baltic countries are growing fast it will be some time before they take a significant proportion of export trade. International transport structure will not therefore change. Poland is however developing rapidly and trade may exceed expectations. Imports are however three times that of exports. Most imports come by sea and will probably be delivered near their final destination. The value of foreign trade will double by 2010 but quantity increase by only 20per cent owing to the mix changing to products of higher price and added value. Increase in trade will increase freight traffic. Outside Sweden this is dominated by lorries. A lot will however be carried by rail. Foreign trade transport will be greatly affected by changes in cost in EU due to taxes, charges and road congestion or rail capacity problems. It is essential that Swedish views should be asserted when EU transport policy and Trans-European networks are developed. Owing to geographical position, foreign traffic will be concentrated in certain corridors. Increase in traffic on certain road and rail links in Scania and west coast may be much greater than in country as a whole.
