THE PERSONALITY OF ACCIDENT PRONE DRIVERS

The personality of accident prone drivers was tested and compared to that of neurotic and normal drivers in the public transport of Cairo, using an adapted Arabic version of the Eysenck Personality Inventory. The neuroticism score was significantly higher in the neurotic and accident prone groups than in normal controls. The neuroticism score was higher in accident prone than neurtoic drivers although the former did not present any neurotic symptoms. Clinical, psychodynamic and psychometric aspects of accident proneness are discussed. It is suggested that the use of pre-employment personality testing might help to screen off neurotic and accident prone drivers. /Author/
