SHIP'S STERN AND PROPELLER ARRANGEMENT

A ship's stern and propeller arrangement having twin laterally spaced and overlapping propellers mounted symmetrically with respect to the central longitudinal plane close to the main hull on shafts extending from stern tube bossings which are smoothly faired into the stern form or which are carried on short struts attached to the stern. This arrangement utilizes the energy of the water in the viscous wake-belt which normally follows the ship due to skin friction, yet avoids the cavitation and vibration problems normally associated with single-screw ship configurations.
