POTENTIAL EFFECTS OF THE SEGREGATED BALLAST TANK (SBT) SYSTEM ON NATIONS OPERATING SMALL TANKER FLEETS
This study is divided into two sections. The purpose of Section (1) is to identify the relevant economic effects of the SBT system on shipowners and on the national economy of smaller nations that operate small tanker fleets. Section (2) consists of comments and recommendations on the feasibility of implementing SBT in existing tankers on a worldwide scale. Finally, an Appendix gives the relevant calculations for present market rates, which serve as a basis for the discussion in the text.
