SPECIFIC PROBLEMS OF THIN ASPHALT OVERLAYS
In the course of improvement of the M1/E30 highway on the territory of the Republic of Belarus double asphalt overlays of 6-7 cm thickness were applicated on the existing concrete and asphalt pavement. "White spots" appeared on individual sections of asphalt pavement where the bottom layer during 3-4 weeks was exposed to adverse weather and traffic conditions (rain and heavy axle loads). Local deterioration of pavement is observed in locations of such spots. To determine the reasons of their appearance detailed studies of asphalt properties, effects of weather conditions and methods of repairing as well as asphalt mix temperature in the process of laying and asphalt compaction were conducted. Potential effect of water migration from central reserve into asphalt pavement was also considered. (A) For the covering abstract see ITRD E104741.
