NOISE AND VIBRATION PROBLEMS IN TRAM DESIGN

Noise and vibrations are two main problems that limit more wide use of trams as urban public transport vehicle. Tram manufacturers make a big effort to decrease levels of noise and vibrations inside and out of the vehicle. To achieve a tram structure with accepted level of radiated noise and vibration some jobs during designing, construction and prototype examination should be done. These problems are strongly related to vehicle dynamics, because phenomena considered in this paper are generated only during tram driving that some dynamic properties of the system are important. To solve dynamic problems of tram design a model must be developed and analysed. This model should be identified and verified based on experimental investigation of vehicle prototype or previous, similar tram design. In the paper, an innovative model based procedure for decreasing noise and vibration generated during tram operation is presented. Since the modern rail vehicle structures are increasingly complex, the designing process must be computer aided. Proposed procedure is based on CAT (Computer Aided Testing) and CAD systems application. The application of proposed procedure for tram design is shown. For the covering abstract see IRRD E104312.
