APPROACH TO THE REPORTING AND EVALUATION OF CORROSION COUPON EXPOSURE RESULTS

Computer analysis of general corrosion rate, pitting, and weight loss data permits close control of corrosion prevention measures. Data on these parameters are entered into the computer which makes calculations and comparisons with previously recorded information that indicate rates. A distinction is made between body or end attack on coupons in data reports, and this permits identification of crevice effects or oxygen differential cells. A report vocabulary carefully selected to identify main parameters and an understanding of system environments and operation modes is essential to correctly interpret readout. Procedures for measuring coupons are described.
