APPLICABILITY AND STABILITY OF LOGIT MODELS IN SWEDEN - SOME RECENT FINDINGS WITH POLICY IMPLICATIONS
The work presented here has produced results concerning preferences as well as methods. The results on preferences show that it is possible to achieve detailed information on preferences, and also that this degree of detail is of great importance (such as having a seta and the existence of bicycle lanes). The stability (or variability) of such detailed results will have to be tested by doing more studies of this kind, for example the Stockholm 1985 Travel Study. The results on the methodological side to add to the knowledge that it is possible to significantly reduce modeling costs by using analyst defined alternatives instead of reported alternatives and by using techniques for sampling from alternatives. Also, it is shown that a car cost variable specification assuming economic rationality is preferable to a more simple specification. The project will continue with estimation of mode and destination choice models on a data set for the medium-size town Jonkoping from 1979. Also, the Stockholm data will be used to estimate more comparable models.
